What is meiosis?
Meiosis is a two part (meiosis I and meiosis II) cell division process in organisms that sexually reproduce. Through a sequence of steps, the replicated genetic material in a parent cell is distributed to four daughter cells. Each of the resulting daughter cells has one half of the number of chromosomes as the parent cell.
Meiosis II
Below is an animated GIF of the different phases of meiosis II in gametogenesis. In meiosis II, the chromosomes separate forming four haploid daughter cells.
