Stem Cells From Hair

Saturday October 18, 2008
Researchers have successfully generated stem cells from a single human hair. They have discovered an efficient method for reprogramming adult human cells so that they revert back to induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. These cells behave like embryonic stem cells.

The iPS cells could be used to create tissues and organs for transplantation. The best part about this discovery is that since these cells are taken from the patient's own hair, they would not be rejected by the patient's immune system.

This article confirms there are better options for stem cell research than the destruction of embryos for their tissue lines. I am not against all stem cell research but do oppose the use of tiny human beings as mere tissue.
