Treadmill Training Improves Brain Activity

We all know that treadmill walking can keep you fit and healthy. Researchers from Johns Hopkins are now suggesting that it can also improve brain activity. Results from a study conducted with stroke victims have shown that the brain actually rewires itself in patients who engage in a treadmill training program.

Through brain scan imaging, researchers were able to detect an increase in brain activity in the brainstem region of patients who participated in the walking program. These results have given hope to many people who struggle with rehabilitation after a stroke. In fact, one stroke patient in the study showed improvements even after having been a stroke survivor for twenty years.
