About the Brain

Friday December 15, 2006
The brain is the control center of the body. Think of a telephone operator who answers incoming calls and directs them to where they need to go. Similarly, your brain acts as an operator by sending messages from all over the body to their proper destination.

The brain is also one of the largest and most important organs of the human body. Weighing in at about three pounds, this organ has a wide range of responsibilities.

There are three main divisions of the brain. They are the midbrain, forebrain, and hindbrain.

There are several structures of the brain. Some of these include the brainstem, cerebellum, cerebral cortex, cranial nerves, and meninges.

I take exception to ‘one of the most important’.

The brain is THE most important. Without it, you are dead. You are not you. You are gone forever.

Yes, you can die without other organs, but we can feasibly imagine having transplants or artificial ones made. The brain is the most far-off for having this done, it goes beyond serving mechanical functions.
