Artificial Compound Eye
Friday April 28, 2006
Bioengineers from the University of California, Berkeley have developed artificial compound eyes. The findings from this discovery are published in the April 28 issue of the journal Science.
The artificial eyes were modeled after the eyes of insects.
The researchers believe that these eyes can be used in several fields including:
- surveillance
- high-speed motion detection
- medical procedures - endoscopies and image-guided surgeries
