Definition: A daughter chromosome is a chromosome that results from the separation of sister chromatids during cell division. In anaphase of mitosis, paired chromosomes (sister chromatids) separate to form daughter chromosomes. Each daughter chromosome migrates centromere first toward opposite ends of the cell. At the end of cell division, two distinct daughter cells are formed from a single cell.
