The year 2000 was filled with a number of exciting discoveries and breakthroughs. From the creation of an RNA computer to producing a heart from brain cells, biology events from the past year continue to inspire and amaze.

1. First Human Chromosome Mapped
For the first time, a team of scientists mapped a human chromosome.

2. Mankind's Earliest Ancestor found in Kenya
In October of 2000, scientists uncovered the fossil remains of what is believed to be mankind's earliest known ancestor, nicknamed Millennium Man.

3. Fake Feathered Dinosaur
Paleontologists have found evidence that Archaeoraptor lianoningensis is not the missing link between birds and dinosaurs. In fact, it was discovered that the fossil remains were composed of at least two different animals.

4. RNA Computer Created
Scientists created a unique RNA computer that can solve puzzles.

5. Brain Cells Produce a Heart
Stem cells from an adult mouse brain have been used to produce other types of tissue.
