What is meiosis?
Meiosis is a two part (meiosis I and meiosis II) cell division process in organisms that sexually reproduce. Through a sequence of steps, the replicated genetic material in a parent cell is distributed to four daughter cells. Each of the resulting daughter cells has one half of the number of chromosomes as the parent cell.
Meiosis I vs. Mitosis
Below is an animated GIF of the different phases of mitosis and meiosis I in gametogenesis. (Animation starts from metaphase and metaphase I)
