Researchers have determined that alligators and caimans really do cry tears when they are devouring their prey.
This tearing up however, has nothing to do with sorrow or grief.
The researchers in this study believe that the tears are a result of the normal hissing that reptiles do when they eat. The hissing is caused by air moving through the sinuses that may mix with the tears in the animal's tear ducts.
