Bioengineered Heart Muscle

Friday December 8, 2006
Researchers from the University of Michigan have developed a new technique for growing bioengineered heart muscle.

This research is exciting because the lab grown heart muscle behaves like natural heart muscle in that it is capable of contracting and responding to stimulation.

The ultimate goal of this study is to generate human hearts for transplants and to create replacement parts for damaged heart tissue.
